Finland Day 9 – New Years Day

New Years Day turned into a day for relaxing. We have been going to hockey games and/or sightseeing every day since Christmas, so we decided to take a break from being on the go.
Still we were able to be very Finnish by taking a sauna. The apartment we rented has a sauna built right into the bathroom! We have learned that there are more than 2 million saunas in a country of 5 million people. So every single Finn could simultaneously be in the sauna! Sounds like brilliant planning to me.

Beyond that it was a simple day with some reading, some Netflix, and a little Finnish TV to go along with a couple games of cribbage. A few loads of laundry and a little light cleaning constituted the work of the day.

I know I am repeating myself, but renting an apartment for two weeks has been so much better than staying in a hotel. I think we would be feeling trapped in a regular hotel by now.

January 2nd will bring us to the Quarterfinals of the World Juniors! We will be taking in the games at Helsinki Ice Hall to see Sweden versus Slovakia and the US take on the Czech Republic.
